Abstract

PROBLEM: abandonment and deterioration of the hermitages, which is why it seeks to promote the appreciation of Guatemala's cultural heritage, highlighting the importance of implementing preventive conservation, enhancement, maintenance, and awareness-raising measures in the surrounding community. As a World Heritage Site, the different states of deterioration in each architectural element were identified, ranging from climatic changes, weather seasons, natural disasters, urban environment, topographic level changes that affect the different buildings. OBJECTIVE: preserve the architectural complex, restoring its value to the urban environment and its context. METHOD: a qualitative approach was used, identifying its characteristics by describing everything that was done during the research process, analysis of architectural objects, observation through the survey of the stations and their registration. Twelve stations from the Barrio de San Francisco, Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez were taken as a sample. RESULTS: its deterioration is due to the lack of planning, registration, conservation and detailed maintenance of each station or hermitage, making it necessary to take preservation, conservation, restoration, rehabilitation measures, since they represent a tangible testimony of the cultural legacy of Guatemala. CONCLUSION: the aim is to promote policies, highlighting the relevance, participation and active awareness of the community in this type of project and the need to invest in the cultural and religious heritage of Guatemala.
