Education under the competency-based approach at the university level

Abstract

PROBLEM: the competency-based approach has been incorporated by universities into the educational model without carrying out a follow-up to verify its effectiveness. OBJECTIVE: to systematize the way in which the competency-based approach has been considered in the educational model of a higher education institution in El Salvador. METHOD: a study was carried out with a qualitative approach, with a descriptive scope, a sample of five people at the managerial level of that university was taken, to whom a structured interview was applied. A documentary review of three educational models was carried out. RESULTS: The results showed that the competency-based approach has been incorporated progressively in the different updates of the educational model and that the institution has continued with its efforts to continue advancing in its implementation. CONCLUSION: it is necessary to study the difficulties that have arisen during the time that the application has been carried out by the different actors in the educational process.
